Did you know the ICGP is hosting the Wonca Europe Conference in the Convention Centre, Dublin this September?
The ICGP is thrilled to host the 29th Wonca Europe Conference. Among the many enthusiastic participants, Aoife O’Brien-Horgan, a 1st year Cork Scheme GP Trainee, her class rep, and a 2023 ICGP Network of Trainee Conference committee member is eager to share her “6 Reasons Why Trainee Doctors Should Attend the 29th Wonca Europe Conference” this September.
- A global platform for networking in our own backyard.
This conference will enable trainees to connect with colleagues from around the world. It is an invaluable opportunity to learn about other healthcare systems and practises which could influence the future of GP in Ireland. It could also allow trainees to get into contact with colleagues with a potential to engage in research relevant to GP.
- Professional development.
WONCA facilitates professional development through workshops, seminars, and discussions led by experts in various aspects of GP. These sessions are tailored to enhance skills, knowledge, and competencies, preparing trainees for some of the challenges faced in their careers.
- Research presentations.
WONCA offers trainees the chance to showcase their work and enhance their reputation in the medical community through paper and e-poster presentations. This experience is invaluable for those looking to pursue academic careers, and also provides an outlet to get some Irish research noticed internationally.
- Broadening our horizons.
WONCA introduces trainees to a wide array of global health issues, offering a broader understanding of how social, economic, and environmental factors influence health outcomes outside of our Emerald Isle. Thus allowing us to develop a holistic approach to patient care given the melting pot of culture that Ireland continues to embrace.
- Personal growth and confidence.
WONCA provides a myriad of ways for trainees to significantly boost personal growth and confidence. Not only through presenting research, but also by engaging in discussions, and stepping out of one’s comfort zone to contribute to a stronger professional identity and confidence in both clinical and academic settings.
- A bit of fun.
Lastly, and possibly most importantly, WONCA provides an opportunity to have “a bit of craic” with both Irish and international colleagues. It will offer a nice break from the day-to-day job with plenty of social events which will give us a chance to reset and recharge with people who are also in training.
See you at the conference!
We hope Aoife gave you a good sense of what the conference has in store for all GPs, don’t miss out on this exceptional event, find out more about the conference at www.woncaeurope2024.org
