The violence in the Gaza Strip, Israel and the surrounding region has led to a massive humanitarian crisis, with thousands of deaths and injuries amongst civilians and medical personnel, including attacks on healthcare facilities. For each week that goes by, the situation on the ground is deteriorating.

Many civilians and those working in healthcare, including doctors and medical professionals, have been killed in the conflict since it began in October 2023.

The Irish College of GPs represents over 4,000 GPs in Ireland. It expresses deep concern at this huge loss of life and urges all sides in this conflict to respect international law. The College calls for the protection of healthcare facilities and personnel and the reopening of crossings to ensure humanitarian aid can be delivered safely.

The Irish College of GPs urges both sides in this conflict to seek a peaceful solution, to end the violence in the region, and support the urgent humanitarian needs of the affected population.
